FacebookI've really been frustrated with Facebook lately because their business fan pages are so difficult to set up with the various applications. Because they are all built by 3rd parties, they are spotty at best. All I want to do is integrate my blog posts, publish my Flickr photos, and share YouTube videos. Well, I've found a way to make integrating your blog posts a lot easier. Sorry, I haven't had much luck with the Flickr and YouTube integration.

Yes, there are 2 applications out there that seem to work okay - Simply RSS and Social RSS. Currently I'm using Social RSS on the fan page for my husband's startup Car Overload. Honestly, the only reason is that I was using Simply RSS for another page I was the administrator of and when I tried to add it to the Car Overload page too everything just broke. I spent hours trying to fix it and finally just gave up. The problem though with these apps is that they don't publish the blog articles to your wall, a feature that a lot of companies want.

Here's how you can use the Notes function to publish your blog articles to your Facebook fan page Wall and add it as an additional tab too.

  1. Go to your Facebook Fan page
  2. Click on "Edit Page"
  3. Scroll down to the "Notes" section, click the pencil and select "Edit"
  4. On the right you'll see a box at the top that says "Import Notes from an External Blog"
  5. Select this option and paste the URL from your blog feed
  6. You're all set! Your blog posts will now appear on your Wall
  7. To add a tab at the top of the navigation for the Notes, go back to the Fan page and click on the "+" in the menu and select "Notes" from the drop-down
  8. Now the Notes page will appear as a tab in your page's top navigation

Hi Erin, great post, that was exactly what I was looking for. Pity it was quite hidden on Facebook. Nice looking blog - keep up the good tips ;)
Cheers, Fiona

I can't even begin to tell you how helpful this was! I set up a fan page a few weeks ago and have been looking for the answer to this. Everywhere I looked, I was being steered towards a FaceBook app. Thank you so much for sharing this solution!

How, do you get these to show up on the Wall and not in a separate tab?
Posted @ Thursday, September 17, 2009 4:18 PM by Bob Rowe
It shows up on the wall automatically and will only be moved to a tab if you do steps 7 and 8.

So helpful thanks heaps, I looked for about 3h last nite to find out how to display my posts on my wall. I found 2 great tools that could help you with Flickr and YouTube:www.involver.com - you can only use 2 and then you need to fork out $99 per month (!). Will keep you updated if I find anything better. I am yet to find out how to get them to display on my wall not just in tabs.

Erin-

This was very helpful. I've been wondering how to do this. Thanks so much.

While I'm here, I have 2 questions:
1. Is it possible to rename your fan page? I want to shorted the name I originally chose.

2. How many fans do you need to get a custom domain?

Mark,

No, you can't change the name of your fan page after you create it so name it carefully.

The eligibility requirements that Facebook posts regarding vanity URL's for fan pages are as follows:

Your Facebook Page must meet two requirements: it must have been live on Facebook prior to the May 31, 2009 cut-off date and have had a minimum 1,000 fans at that time.

This limitation is temporary. All Pages created after May 31, 2009 or that had less than 1,000 fans on that day will be eligible to claim usernames on Sunday, June 28, 2009 if they have more than 25 fans.

Hi Erin,

Great blog post. I have been using this facility on my fan page for a couple of months now. However, the notes are no longer publishing on my wall only in the notes section.

Do you have any ideas on how to fix it?

Cheers,
Craig.

Great Post Erin, but we @ FunX.fm have the same problem with the Notes. They don't work anymore...

Do you know how to fix this?

Yours Sincerely

Burç

Ditto the two above. Notes have disappeared from my wall -- what gives!

The same thing happened to my site. The notes are gone.

Erin, Thank you so much for this information! I've been pulling my hair out trying to get my blog imported into my fan page and now you've given me the instructions to do so. I'm guessing that Facebook keeps this a little less than straightforward to clamp down on people publishing other people's content that they don't own into their pages? Who knows? Thanks again for the great info!

Excellent article Erin. This I will definately add, ta. Have you seen the app with Linked In that can do the same thing. Handy when people are doing their due diligence on you. I wrote a spiel here - http://www.smarterwebsites.com.au/direct-response-marketing/3-best-tips-for-using-linkedin

There is an app for facebook called MyFlickr which with some effort trying to set it up correctly does eventually work. (displays photos on either profile of fan page in the feed) I tried Involver and did not like it as much - too long to download the image in the tab - but nicely presented when it did actually finish downloading,)

Hi there! Thanks for the help! Do you know how to change the title of the 'Notes' Tab? So it says something different than 'notes'?

I've been able to change other tabs when using FBML, but can't figure out if there's a way to change the 'Notes' tab now that I can use this to pull from my blog. Prefer to say something other than notes!

Erin,
Thanks so much for sharing this tip. I have been manually adding blog links for sometime now and what a pain this is. Now, all my articles are getting posted and this was really easy to do.

Thanks!

Thank, Erin. Have you run into an issue whereby those blog post notes stop showing up on your wall?

I just had this happen myself on one of my FB pages in which I set up blogs to feed to notes just as you described above. A new blog post was published, and it fed to my page's notes, but doesn't show on that page's wall.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
